Time for a change and saying goodbye to Sea of Curiosities.
Happy New Year! I’m starting 2026 off with a heartfelt update.
I started Sea of Curiosities back in 2017 while I was going through cancer. Creating gave me something positive to focus on, and I decided to pursue art full time. Since then, so much has changed. Last year I reached a point where I no longer felt connected to my art, I was burnt out from back-to-back events, and I knew I needed to change something.
Painting has been a love of mine for a few years now, but it still didn’t feel quite like my work. I realised that while I had changed, my work hadn’t changed with me. After a lot of thought, I picked up oil paints to practise, experiment, and see if the joy of creating would return.
After several months working with oils behind the scenes, I fell in love with the medium and my style began to evolve, shifting to something more atmospheric, moodier, and painterly, influenced by my love for Baroque and Romanticism.
Towards the end of 2025 I made the decision to retire Sea of Curiosities, discontinue my mixed media art, older painted designs and completely focus on oil painting. The themes will still reflect my love of ruins, beautifully haunting places and the natural world.
This is a huge change. I’m excited and honestly, a little nervous. After eight years of Sea of Curiosities, it feels like starting from the beginning again.
So what’s next:
- Farewell Sale: I’m holding a big sale on all artwork being discontinued (that’s most of my work) and once it’s gone, it’s gone.
- New website: Over the next few weeks I’ll be finishing a new website and launching the next chapter of my creative journey.
- A change of pace: Oil painting isn’t a quick process, so things will move more slowly, but I’ll be sharing more as works progress.
- Curated releases: New art will be released in curated collections and include limited releases, original paintings and special editions.
- More conversaton: I’ll be adding a blog, refreshing my social media and sending occassional newsletters (not too often) with updates, behind he scenes and thoughts…more personal, less “brand”.
Thank you for being here, whether you’ve been with me since the beginning or are new, your support means the world. I hope you’ll stay with me and see what comes next.
Thank you! - Laura
